Landscape's benefits and challenges
Benefits: There are many benefits of Laval's landscape. First, Laval has rich, fertile soil which is great for agriculture. This creates more jobs in farming and occupations relating to this industry.
Also, it has great sources of water as, it is near 3 rivers (Rivière des Mille Îles, Rivière des Prairies and St. Lawrence River) . This makes water very accessible and available to the city as well as, allowing electricity to be provided by hydroelectricity which is a sustainable reusable resource.
Challenges: There are not many challenges Laval's landscape presents but one of the disadvantages is that Laval is relatively small for a city that is quite densely populated. As there are even more citizens, more houses will need to be built and it make take up some of the farm/rural land.

Impacting FActors
Some factors that influence the climate in Laval are:
|
1998 montréal ice storm
On January 6th 1998, a devastating ice storm struck Montreal. Large tree branches dropped as the glistening ice covering the trees, caused them to be too heavy to stay up. These trees crushed electricity wires. This storm lasted for about a week, leaving millions all across Montreal cold and without electricity. The damage was quite severe as the days passed by; cars, electricity wires, and houses all got damaged by fallen tree branches trapped in ice or trees that have been snapped in half, and roads were unusable due to the tree branches blocking the roads. It got as far as to calling the army to come assist the city.
When the disastrous storm was over a huge clean up had to be done. There were many people with severe damage to their homes and plenty of other things such as electricity wires and roads that needed to be restored back to normal. This clean up continued into April.

Climate change
Climate change has huge influences on a city's region. It could put Laval in despair as, global warming causes irregular temperatures, disastrous storms and events that could put Laval in a pinch.
When temperatures get warmer, more precipitation occurs, with longer growing seasons. This may be a problem as Laval already receives enough rain for crops and this extra precipitation might just flood farms and various areas. In other regions of the world there may be people who become refugees due to terrible weather or very high sea levels (these refugees are called "climate change refugees). Laval would feel stressed to accept the large number of refugees. |
